Community Participation and Sustainable Tourism Development Model in Komodo National Park

Sustainable tourism is the tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic , social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities. It can be related to travel for leisure, business and what is called VFR visiting friends and relatives. Global tourism accounts for c. A report by the United Nations World Tourism Organization found that though some countries and sectors in the industry are creating initiatives for tourism in addressing the SDGs, knowledge sharing, finance and policy for sustainable tourism are not fully addressing the needs of stakeholders. Tourist development organizations are promoting sustainable tourism practices in order to mitigate negative effects caused by the growing impact of tourism.

The increasing number of tourist visits to the Komodo National Park KNP has had various impacts on the local communities. This report concerns findings of research conducted regarding community perspectives on tourism development in the KNP and its environs. A quantitative analysis using Structural Equation Modelling SEM was performed to analyse the responses of the local community regarding sustainable, community-based tourism development including social equity, cultural vitality, environmental sustainability and economic prosperity. The As of tourism Attraction, Access and Amenities concept form the basis of analysis of the data collected. The results from the SEM analysis of responses of the community show that sustainable, community-based tourism development in KNP may, in the long term, be improved by more than two percent, if all stakeholders have the commitment to improve the conditions of rural tourism employment, the tourism activities of local businesses, the number of livelihood alternatives and economic growth, and also per capita income by at least one percent. The main purpose of this research is to examine the effects of sustainable tourism on sustainable community development in coastal regions in the UK. This research also seeks to investigate the extent of sustainable tourism practices and the extent of sustainable community development practices in the coastal regions in the UK. The study was conducted by deductive approach cross sectional method following quantitative techniques. The respondents are selected from hotels, restaurants, travel agencies who are operating their business activities in the coastal regions, and the local council of the coastal regions. The questionnaires survey was used to collect primary data from the respondents. The sample of respondents was selected by using convenience sampling technique or on the basis of their availability and interest.

Sustainable tourism development guidelines and management practices are applicable to all forms of tourism in all types of destinations, including mass tourism and the various niche tourism segments. Sustainable tourism development requires the informed participation of all relevant stakeholders, as well as strong political leadership to ensure wide participation and consensus building.
